It may have a small population, but Leitrim is not short of scenic gems and delights. Least of all is the beautiful and inspiring Glencar Waterfall, famous for being an inspiration to Ireland’s greatest poet William Butler Yeats and features in his poem ‘The Stolen Child’.
‘Where the wandering water gushes From the hills above Glen-Car, In pools among the rushes That scarce could bathe a star.’
This glorious fall reaches 50ft high and is situated at Glencar Lough. You’ll enjoy the short, picturesque wooded walk and wish that it was longer. There are light refreshments available at the Tea Shed at the visitor car park.
