Our reception team are always on hand to guide and advise you and the Leitrim Tourism Office is right across the road, so you will not have too far to go as you plan your days. We have included a selection of in and out door ideas, some within walking distance and others within a short drive. We look forward to welcoming you to Cryan’s Hotel and to Carrick-on-Shannon.

Lough Key Forest Park
Jump in the car and take a short spin over the bridge and out the Sligo road. You’ll soon see the sign for Lough Key Forest Park, the 19th century parkland with majestic trees, numerous walks and trails through the native woodlands and diverse habitats, home to many species of wildlife.A number of historical and archaeological points of interest can be found throughout the Park including Ringforts, Fishing Pavilion, Fairy Bridge, Wishing Chair, Ice-House, Bog Garden, Stables and Estate Chapel.A visitor centre, with a lakeside café, is the starting point to a number of unique activities for all the family, including a Tree Canopy Walk, Boda Borg and Adventure Play Kingdom. Lough Key Forest Park is also home to Zipit, Woodland Segways and Lough Key Boat Tours. Bring you bikes, or just some walking shoes and enjoy hours as you explore.
Tullyboy Farm
Tullyboy Farm is a family run real working visitor farm in a beautiful setting around a Georgian farmhouse and buildings with mature trees and lake views on the Roscommon and Leitrim border between Boyle and Carrick on Shannon.
The attraction offers fun, educational and cultural activities for families, and all types of groups in a safe environment. There is a whole range of activities available, from miniature tractor barrel rides, straw dives for goodies, playground, lots of animals to get up close to and hand feed and cuddle, tractor trailer rides (if sufficient numbers permit), pony rides by lead rein (when available). Most of these are included in the day visit at no extra cost so it represents great value for money.
Zipit
Zipit at Lough Key Forest Park is a treetop high forest adventure park with a difference. A place for young and old to face their fears, challenge the adventurous spirit and have seriously good fun and belly laughs along the way. You can climb high into the treetops, swing into cargo nets, even ride a bmx across a bridge, before zipping down one of our many ziplines. Zipit is an ideal adventure for a family excursion or for a friend group. from age 7 to adults can enjoy up to 3 hours of excitement and adventure.
Sliabh an Iarainn Walks
Sliabh an Iarainn Mountain is the wild and rugged mountain in County Leitrim. It rises 585 metres above sea level and is located on the eastern shore of Lough Allen. Sliabh an Iarainn or “Mountain of Iron” derives its name from the iron deposits to be found in the rocks. It is said that iron ore from the mountain was used in the construction of Dublin’s Halfpenny Bridge.
A visit to the Sliabh an Iarainn Visitor Centre in Drumshanbo tells more of the history of the region and there are three lovely looped walks perfect for exploring and enjoying this majestic landscape.
Lough Allen Adventure
Treat yourself to an outdoor adventure! Lough Allen Adventure is an award-winning adventure centre offering outdoor recreation in Leitrim. Activities range from fun and adrenaline fuelled watersports such as windsurfing on Lough Allen and kayaking on the Shannon Blueway to reaching the summits of North West Ireland’s fabulous mountains.
Paddle Shack
The River Shannon not only provides the most stunning backdrop to your stay at Cryan's Hotel, but it is also an amenity to be enjoyed. Stoll it's boardwalks and riverbank park or go for a paddle during your stay! Paddle Shack, offer guided kayaking and stand up paddle boarding sessions which will have you discovering the Shannon like never before.
Leitrim Surf Company
Leitrim Surf Company specialise in Stand-Up Paddling and Surf with guided Stand Up Paddle boarding Safaris on the Shannon Blueway, the Shannon-Erne Blueway and tours of the Leitrim coastline. It’s a peaceful way to get around and a novel way to explore Leitrim’s river and their banks.
Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club
The Golf Club is situated on the outskirts of the town of Carrick-on-Shannon. Constructed to the highest USGA specifications, this parkland course is an excellent 18-hole course with delightful diversity of scenery. The new nine holes were built on land that sweeps down to Drumharlow Lake and the Boyle River creating some spectacular views of the lake and river.
Electric Bike Trails
From their base in Leitrim Village, Electric Bike Trails hire a full range of regular bicycles, electric bicycles, children’s bicycles, child carts, child seats and tandems.
They provide self-guided tours and also, guided tours. Leitrim is gaining a name for itself for cycling. Here you can enjoy a tranquil traffic free cycle along the Shannon Blue way including the floating boardwalk at Acres Lake . It is an easy cycle suitable for all the family and is a 20 km round trip from the Electric Bike Trail base at Leitrim Village to Drumshanbo Village.
Carrick Quads
A 5 minutes spin out the road, Carrick Quads is set on over 100 acres of fantastic Irish countryside. This off-road motor-powered adventure is perfect for all levels from the novice to the experienced. Everyone will have an amazing time regardless of the weather!
